“The latest and junkiest outing from the travelling opportunist of gay cinema, Rosa von Praunheim … [is] as much calculated to upset a heterosexual audience as to flatter the complicity of a (male) gay one,” – Chris Auty, The Guardian, 1983

This April Scour Cinema is offering an incredibly rare opportunity for audiences to experience Rosa Von Praunheim’s 1983 queer classic City of Lost Souls (Stadt der verlorenen Seelen) at Leeds’ Wharf Chambers. Compared to the works of maverick gay artists/filmmakers as varied as Any Warhol, Kenneth Anger and John Waters, this radical, trans punk movie musical stars black singer and drag artist Angie Stardust, alongside transgender punk singer Jayne County and Tata O’Hara in a loosely fictionalised story of a group of eccentric cabaret artists who leave America for West Berlin in search of space and acceptance, but find reality does not line up with the city’s reputation.

The event is run a-on a pay as you feel basis, with a suggested donation of £4 if you are able.
