Competition: WIN tickets to Hofesh Shechter & Friends at HOME

Polly Checkland Harding

Enter our competition to WIN a pair of tickets to see Hofesh Shechter & Friends – the trailblazer show before HOME opens.

An award-winning choreographer who has called contemporary dance “boring” has been chosen to present the trailblazer show at HOME. Hofesh Shechter, an Israeli dancer who has lived in the UK since 2002, is an Associate Artist at Sadler’s Wells, but was also behind Maxxie’s Dance, the powerful sequence that opened the second series of Channel Four’s Skins. This, then, is a man unafraid of reaching audiences in new ways – a man whose way of melding together dubstep grooves, a heavy atmosphere and movement has won him international accolades. So, what’s in store for HOME’s trailblazer?

WIN tickets to Hofesh Shechter & Friends at HOME

Hofesh Shechter & Friends opens with a Fragments, the work that launched Shechter’s reputation globally. Once performed by the man himself, this ironic look at relationships will now be presented by two members of the Hofesh Shechter Dance Company’s apprenticeship programme. It’s followed by the first look at Shechter’s new work tHE bAD, a piece for five dancers that’s still in progress, with Shechter commanding late night rehearsals to alter the mood of the performance. The score is likely to reflect the choreographer’s usual tastes, with percussive electronics and dubstep elements.

The final part of the night transitions from dance show to live gig, with musician Joel Harries – who has played with the Hofesh Shechter Dance Company internationally – bringing his three piece instrumental band 72% Morrissey to the stage (expect Morrissey classics, though, and you’ll be disappointed). The trailblazer looks set to be a wonderfully genre bending, unpredictable medley of an evening – and you can be there for absolutely zero monies. Just enter our competition below and you’re in with a chance of winning a pair of tickets to the performance at 7.30pm on Saturday 2 May. Hurrah!
