Competition: WIN tickets to see Kim Gordon in Conversation

Stevie Mackenzie-Smith

Kim Gordon comes to Manchester in March, to talk to Dave Haslam about her highly-anticipated memoir Girl In A Band – and we’re giving away a pair of tickets.

Where hot rock ‘n’ roll memoirs are concerned, the release of Sonic Youth co-founder Kim Gordon’s Girl In A Band in February is high up on the list of Things That Make The Post-Christmas Period More Bearable. Gordon chronicles her work, her relationships and the lost New York of the 1980s and 90s, which, political turbulence and relentlessly gushing fire hydrants aside, was the incubator for Sonic Youth and the alternative music revolution the band played a part in inspiring. At the heart of Girl In A Band is a consideration of partnership, of collaboration, and what happens when both dissolve. If you devoured Patti Smith’s Just Kids, chances are this will be right up your street.

To celebrate the release of Girl In A Band, Kim Gordon stops in Manchester for one of two rare in-conversation events taking place in the UK, presented by the Faber Social. Kim joins author and DJ Dave Haslam for the latest in his always thoughtful Close Up onstage interview series, which has previously seen him talking with Jarvis Cocker, Jeremy Deller, Maxine Peake, John Lydon and Black Francis of The Pixies. The in-conversation will be followed by a Q&A and book signing.

We’re giving away a pair of tickets to see Kim Gordon and Dave Haslam in conversation at The University of Manchester’s Martin Harris Centre on 18 March 2015; to enter, all you have to do is enter your details below. The competition closes Monday 5 January.
