After a successful year inspiring people to discover glasswork at the Manchester Craft and Design Centre, Helen Tiffany is introducing a new technique to her workshop repertoire. Join her on the 22nd of November to learn about the design possibilities made available using Sgraffito technique. Have a go at screen printing on glass and create up to three ornamental decorations.
mix bespoke shades to create with
In her previous workshops, Helen taught participants to print onto clear sheet glass using enamel, sgraffito allows you to work into those designs, scraping away more intricate marks. After doing some extensive research into colour mixing, Helen makes all of her enamels in studio and can mix bespoke shades for you to create with. Although her style uses lots of geometric patterns and repeating motifs, in the workshop, you can choose whether to go down the same road or take it off piste with your design choices.
Each workshop has between five and ten participants and lasts approximately two and a half hours. After your decorations are complete they will be kiln fired and ready for you to pick up, one to two weeks after the workshop’s taken place. No prior knowledge of glass work is necessary, everyone, regardless of ability or experience is welcome. However if you’re already experienced with screen printing on glass this workshop’s a great way to add sgraffito to your skill set.
Helen has been based at Manchester Craft and Design Centre for six years alongside many other skilled crafts people and makers. Be sure to check out their website, or call into the centre some time, to find more workshops and interesting creations.
