River of Light Festival – Liverpool
Vicky AndrewsOnce again this winter, River of Light Festival will take place in the Liverpool City Centre, spanning a 2km trail around the waterfront, in a mix of new commissions and existing artworks which haven’t visited the city before.
Highlights this year include Atelier Sisu’s installation Labyrinth, a modular colourful Art-chitecture and a temporary playground. The labyrinthine form is driven by an exploration of the golden ratio and its connection to the Fibonacci sequence, said to govern the dimensions of everything from the Great Pyramid of Giza to the iconic seashell.
Also worth checking out is Emergence by This Is Loop – a sanctum within which to consider the dynamic interplay between order and chaos and the momentous role this plays in systems, life, the self and the entire universe. The structure consists of 75 large mirror nodes covered on all surfaces with a mirror finish arranged into a cylindrical pavilion style structure with three entrances in a ‘Y’ formation.
United By Music, meanwhile, stands as a 12-meter round, multi-purpose performance space that pays tribute to the music of Eurovision 2023 which took place in Liverpool. And Night Whisper is inspired by the the dynamic movement of Moths around light, featuring a giant luminescent light bulb that people are invited to climb inside.
