Knit with Wire and Crystals with Suraya Hossain, 15 December 2019, 1:00 pm–4:00 pm, from £40 - Book now

Knitting instantly makes you think of wool, cotton and soft materials, however, join Suraya Hossain to discover how knitting can be possible with fine wire and Swarovski crystal beads. Over the three hour workshop you’ll gain the basic skills needed to knit with wire and create a Thistle Brooch. With all the materials and tools provided, you’ll have a choice of two wire colours to create your brooch with. The thistle design, which you’ll be following, was originally created for the 2019 Edinburgh Yarn Festival.

Suraya Hossain is an experienced designer and creator who works predominantly with fine wire. You can often find her exhibiting jewellery at The Knitting and Stitching shows and her work has previously been mentioned in “The Knitter” and “Simply Crochet” magazines. Let her absolute passion for this medium come to light as she teaches you techniques allowing you to knit with wire beyond the workshop.

The workshop takes place at Countess Ablaze, a dye studio which turns the idea of a traditional yarn shop on its head and is sandwiched in between the Northern Quarter and Ancoats. As well as producing their unique and vibrant yarns, they host regular workshops and knitting groups, be sure to check the Countess Ablaze website for details.
