Start the new year with colour and passion, in a flamenco workshop that gives you a thorough introduction to the highly expressive dance form. Learn the ideology and moves of two well known palos, musical forms of flamenco, from a highly experienced teacher.
No previous experience of flamenco or dance is required, it’s a welcoming space regardless of age or fitness level. You just need to bring willingness to learn and enthusiasm for trying something new. The session will be accompanied by a live guitarist, who will musically lead you through Solea into Buleria, the two palos of flamenco which you will learn to dance. There isn’t anything quite like, experiencing the rawness and power of flamenco with a live musician. It allows the workshop to become more of a conversation, rather than dance class.

Christine Meadows, a flamenco teacher of 30 years, will guide you through the rhythm and footwork. You’ll also learn how the palmas (hand clapping) punctuate the rhythmic flow of flamenco. Christine danced with a professional flamenco quadro for several years and has been teaching at Instituto de Cervantes Manchester for over seven years. Join her as she brings this vibrant art form to the Lowry’s studio 3.
