Quarry Bank is embracing this wonderful time of year with reindeer trails, tasty treats and an insight into the yuletide experience of Mill workers. Enjoy a seasonal day out with the whole family this Christmas at Quarry Bank.
Explore the luxury of the Mill Owner’s Georgian home as it becomes adorned with Christmas decorations before seeing the other side of Quarry Bank’s festive history. Unlike the Mill Owner, Christmas at the Apprentice house was a much more modest affair. These hard done by child workers would have been thrilled to receive a cup of tea and a slice of current loaf on the 25th of December. This small gesture would have been greatly appreciated as the apprentices were rarely given treats, let alone a day off! Being given the time to relax would have been their most treasured Christmas present.
In the gardens, families can go on a quest through the grounds searching for reindeer. Keep track of each reindeer that you find as there is a chance to win a festive reindeer prize. And after a frosty walk, warm up with hot chocolates, refuel with mince pies, or rest little legs with a sit on Father Christmas’s sleigh parked on the mill meadow outside of the mill.
Once out of the cold, take in the decadently decorated Christmas tree, which will be taking pride of place in the mill yard. If you’re struggling to think of ideas for those stocking fillers, be sure to call by the mill shop when you visit. There you’ll find games, gadgets, books and more.
Immerse yourself in the heritage of the Mill and enjoy some more modern traditions with Christmas at Quarry Bank.
Free event (normal admission charges apply).
