Rise Up! Family workshop with Kiara Mohammed at Bluecoat, City Centre 31 August 2019 Entrance is free

Rise Up! in the Children and Young People’s Gallery at Bluecoat, invites you to join the climate change movement and stand up for justice. As part of the exhibition Bluecoat are running this artist-led family workshop, which will see Kiara Mohammed, take the helm. She aims to get children and young people motivated to communicate their demand for social change through art.

A local artist, Kiara, is someone whose multidisciplinary work is known for its compassion and positivity. “I feel that art can create a revolution because it has the power to inspire. It has the power to deeply move people. So, yes, it can light the spark that creates social change.”

Take the family along on 31 August and get involved in a variety of creative activities. Spread the message that change is needed to protect our children’s future.

The movement is inspired by 16 year old Greta Thunberg, who has been striking from school every Friday since August 2018. Children across the world have come together and joined school strikes to demand action from the Government on climate change.

It’s genuinely inspiring stuff and this exhibition wants to celebrate that. Rise Up! encourages children to stand up for what they believe in and explore art as a response to what is happening to our planet. In the true nature of activism Rise Up! wants you to be more than simply an observer and to take part in the action. You’ll have the opportunity to create and exhibit your own artwork, ensuring an ever changing exhibition and providing a platform for young people’s voices.

The exhibition and family workshop are free and aimed at children aged 5+.
