Angels of Anarchy at Manchester Art Gallery. Win tickets.

We had a chat with Jeanette Winterson the other week. She told us that she thought 2009 was the moment ‘that women have to fight again’ – this after seeing Angels of Anarchy, the exhibition in Manchester that the Guardian reckons ‘is a milestone in rediscovering he secret history of the 20th century’. Angels could be described as a something of a blockbuster. It contains 150 artworks by over 30 artists, taken from collections across the globe (from the Tate to the Pompidou). It includes some of the most famous female artists of the last century: Frida Kahlo, Meret Oppenheim, Lee Miller. And it is a European first – no other exhibition has ever focused on the works of the female Surrealists before. But it is also a quiet, unsettling show, one whose subject matter – and subjects – stays with you long after you’ve left the gallery.
To celebrate the launch of this singular exhibition, Manchester Art Gallery is offering one very lucky reader a pair of tickets to the exhibition, a copy of the rather beautiful, fully illustrated catalogue and lunch for two in the Gallery’s award-winning cafe. This competition has now closed.
