Cultureometer. Latest happenings in the blogosphere.

Kate Feld, author of the Manchizzle (described by The Guardian as ‘the pick of Manchester culture and hub of blogging goodness’) and organiser of the Manchester Blog Awards, rounds up recent happenings in the blogosphere.
Sometimes blogging feels like it’s been around forever – to many of the jaded media-savvy readers of today, this whole publishing words and pictures online racket can seem pretty old hat. But it takes a blog like newcomer Ribbons & Leaves to help us look at the medium in an entirely new way. Blogger Benjamin Thomas types each of his posts out on an old-school typewriter and scans in the pages to display as images – the result is a charming juxtaposition of old and new technology. No word on whether his blog’s feed is available via fax or pneumatic tube, but the content is great – check out his recent post mourning the departure of Urbis.
Art film guy Bren O’ Callaghan filed an excellent report from Finding Zion, Single Cell Collective’s interesting programme of activities at Hulme’s Zion Arts Centre. He went along to The Loiterer’s Resistance Movement’s day of activities celebrating The People’s History of Hulme – an inebriated space alien, a mock council meeting, punk poetry readings and hand-drawn maps all get a look in.
Blogger (and Creative Tourist contributor) Ben East visited the Royal Exchange where he enjoyed Matthew Dunster’s production of 1984. Meanwhile, Words & Fixtures assesses the surprisingly robust am-dram scene in Chorlton.
Visual arts blogger TT Fitzpatrick writes about looking forward to Spencer Tunick’s installations at the Lowry in his blog Tryharderfailbetter, while Cultural Tales of Two Cities reviewed Manchester Art Gallery’s latest photographic show by Dorothy Bohm. Parklover took a trip to Bolton’s Moss Bank Park, which sounds like a lovely place for a spring outing with the kids.
Hungry? The Things to do in Manchester blog visited the carnivore’s paradise that is Bem Brasil. And Words Dept. addresses a truly burning (ho ho) question for Mancunian foodies: who serves up the best burrito, fast-growing tex-mex chain Barburrito or scrappy newcomer Pancho’s? The answer is here. Bon appetit!
