Kate Feld, author of the Manchizzle (described by The Guardian as ‘the pick of Manchester culture and hub of blogging goodness’) and organiser of the Manchester Blog Awards, rounds up September’s happenings in the blogosphere.

The first leaves are starting to turn, and it’s that time of year when Manchester’s cultural insitutitions kick back into high gear after their long and languid summer break. The frenzy of Autumn festival season is nearly here, but a few committed flaneurs are still stretching out the last bits of downtime to enjoy pottering around town.

Lost in Manchester is loving the way native son Lemn Sissay’s poems have literally become part of the cityscape. They feature in prominent outdoor displays, painted onto the sides of buildings in Rusholme and captured here in glorious colour on this lovely photo blog. Elsewhere, in a rambling exploration of our city, the intrepid Manchester Zedders have been all over South Manchester in their search for, um, a legendary ditch.

Lovers of all things handmade, Indie Quarter have previewed the Great Northern Contemporary Craft Fair, which is set to take over a purpose-built pavillion in Spinningfields next month, and this blog is running a competition for free tickets (get over to IQ before 25 September to enter).

Bury curator and poet Tony Trehy has blogged this account of If not this…, an evening of live performance art at his own Bury Art Gallery earlier this month, created as a companion to the Not At This Address exhibition.

Meanwhile, Ella Wredenfors of art blog Run Paint Run Run enjoyed Colour Chart at Tate Liverpool but was dismayed by the merchandising tie-in. Meanwhile, Follow The Yellow Brick Road features write ups of exhibitions in Manchester (Exocet’s Miscellany show in an empty shop in the Northern Quarter) and Lancaster (Strange Days and Some Flowers at the Storey Institute).

If you’d rather make art than look at it, local comics god Jim Medway is offering a chance to learn to how to draw a cartoon version of yourself (along with primary school kids in Chorlon) via his excellent Paw Quality Comics blog. Some folks might also recognise this character spotted by Medway out and about in the neighbourhood.
