A Manual for the 21st Century Gatekeeper

New York-based curator, Michael Connor, talks to Cornerhouse’s Sarah Perks about the ways in which the internet, social media and new, collaborative ways of working are fundamentally changing the relationship between arts organisations and their audiences. In his essay, A Manual for the 21st Century Gatekeeper, Connor argues that technology is less important than ‘an organisation’s DNA’, or how people within an organisation relate and communicate to each other and to the world at large.

In this exclusive vodcast, Connor also makes a case for celebrating failure. Technology allows us to prove or fail new ideas easily and cheaply, he argues, but we need to ‘value people who admit they failed’. Connor was in Manchester as part of Cornerhouse’s ongoing research series, The Art of With.
